The glamour shoot: 20s
Six images built around a 1920s imagery, with evildevilbandicoot as the only presence in an interior of dark wood, bookcases packed with volumes, mirrors in carved frames, densely hung pictures and a floral armchair with worn fabric. The light is warm and diffused, with a haze that softens the edges and lightens the backgrounds, while the palette stays on amber, sepia, brass and black, broken only by the glint of sequins and the white of pearls.
The wardrobe recurs throughout: an embroidered headband with a rhinestone brooch and feather, long black gloves, multi-strand pearl necklaces, a dress with fringes and metallic embroidery, replaced in some frames by a black lace bodysuit. Short waved hair, dark lipstick and elongated eyeliner complete the period reference, which sits without friction alongside the tattoos on arms and legs and the small nose ring.
In the first images the figure occupies the armchair and the edge of a piece of furniture, with a contained, slightly tilted attitude, as if the space were familiar rather than something to explore. Elsewhere the body stretches out on a sofa and on a bed with a repeating-pattern coverlet, in a slow abandon, the gaze often directed outside the frame. An open black fan, held above the face, introduces a screening that returns in the close-up portrait, where a closed book and a pencil cover half the face, leaving one eye and the line of the mouth visible.
The result is an intimate sequence, hardly theatrical despite the costumes, in which attention is distributed between the grain of the fabrics, the irregular shimmer of the embroidery and the objects of the room, which stay out of focus yet always recognisable.
