The glamour shoot: Purple Night

Six photographs built around a single dominant colour: a violet that enters from behind, settles on the walls and falls back onto the pale fabrics of the room. The space is more suggested than shown: a beige corduroy sofa, a bed with white sheets, a circular panel on the wall, a woven net hanging like a hammock, dark window frames cutting the background into squares. The light floor barely reflects the glow, and everything else stays in a warm half-darkness.

The palette works with few elements: the magenta and lilac of the background lights, the cream of the sofa and the bed, the black of the accessories and shoes, the deep red of the lips. Against this base the skin reads clearly, covered in tattoos that become part of the composition: roses across the torso, geometric patterns on the neck and shoulders, a full-colour dragon with red flowers filling the whole back, vines and figures along arms and legs.

In the frontal images the figure stays seated on the sofa, leaning into the edge of the cushions, the gaze often sliding out of frame. At other times the body stretches across the bed and the viewpoint drops until it almost touches the mattress: a black high-heeled shoe enters the foreground out of focus, large and blurred, while the figure remains further away, immersed in violet.

One frame is taken from behind, with the back as the main subject and black straps crossing it; the head turns only slightly, the red and purple hair gathered to one side. In another the figure moves forward across the sofa, weight shifted onto one hand sunk into the fabric, the face close to the lens.

The overall atmosphere is nocturnal, enclosed, suspended between coloured artificial light and the neutral tones of the room.
