A Messy Breakfast

The glamour shoot: A Messy Breakfast

Eris moves through a bright kitchen of glossy white and mint-green cabinets, wooden counters and a band of warm light running beneath the units, reflected on the mirrored splashback where it opens into long horizontal rays across the background. It is the uncertain hour of breakfast: on the table sit a plate with croissants and a glazed doughnut, a glass of coffee with milk, a jug, a green milk carton and coffee beans scattered over the wood.

In the first image she stands leaning against the edge of the counter, wearing a loose black printed T-shirt, long hair falling over one shoulder, drinking from a glass of juice; her gaze stays on the lens, her body slightly turned. Elsewhere the mood becomes more domestic and untidy: arms raised in a yawn, pale blue briefs beneath the shirt, her profile bent over a phone screen, hands busy tipping something into a cup with a half smile.

Two frames break the rhythm. In one the T-shirt is pulled up over the head and stays there, covering the face: what remains visible is the torso, the waist, the tattoo on the thigh and the beans scattered in the foreground, with the table filling the lower edge of the frame. In the other Eris sits on the counter, knees drawn up against her chest, white socks on her feet and a glass held in her hands, her look direct and touched by a faint smile.

The palette holds together the aqua green of the cabinets, the warm brown of the wood, the black of the shirt and the light blue of the fabric, with a golden cast softening the edges. The atmosphere is that of a morning not yet in order, made of interrupted gestures, crumbs, reflections and movements drifting between counter and table without a fixed direction.
