The glamour shoot: My Gym Routine

Six images in a bright, almost emptied room, where the white of the walls and the long-pile rug bounce the light back until it looks like vapour. The windows on the left enter the frame as a warm, pale orange patch that spreads across the edges and softens the outlines: the rest of the palette stays in cream, ivory and heavily diluted seafoam, the only contrast coming from Eris's copper-brown hair and the floral tattoo running along her hip and thigh.

Eris wears a white ribbed bodysuit, close-fitting and plain, and a pair of chunky knit legwarmers in the same colour, which recur in every photograph as the only accessory. In the first image her body is inverted, resting on shoulders and arms, her legs opening upward in a line that fills the whole height of the frame, while her hair spreads across the floor as a darker mark on the white. Other images show her seated on the ground: in one she looks past the lens with her arms lifted behind her head, in another she is seen from above and from behind, her back exposed by the deep cut of the bodysuit, fists closed and tense.

A frontal portrait finds her sitting cross-legged, a finger to her lips and a held-back look of complicity; shortly after, a back-turned figure blurred in the foreground reduces everything to soft volumes and a foot resting on the rug. The final photograph shifts register: Eris stands against a pale wall, without the bodysuit, wearing only the legwarmers, one arm stretched upward and her face turned toward the window light.

As a whole the set moves at a slow pace, made of supports, extensions and pauses, with a domestic, overexposed atmosphere that holds exercise and rest together.
